Lori Lightfoot elected as Chicago’s 1st black female – and gay – mayor


History was made in Chicago Tuesday as voters there for the first time elected an African-American woman to be the city’s next mayor. Lori Lightfoot beat Toni Preckwinkle in a runoff election. Lightfoot is also the first openly gay person to lead the city.
