A humorous viral question has been circulating recently: "What everyday task feels like an Olympic sport but isn’t?" Some answered, "folding laundry," or "wrestling a duvet." Well, my answer is doing my hair. I have a love-hate relationship with my long and very thick hair. It's a blessing and a curse; there's a lot of it, so as you can imagine, it takes a long time to dry and style.

Styling my hair right out of the shower takes so long that after 30 minutes have passed, I feel like I just left a workout class. I'm panting, sweating, my arms hurt and I need to stand in front of my AC and chug water. Sometimes I'm too lazy to bother with the task, and I just let it air dry, which creates another disaster in itself.

Then the Wavytalk Turblow Pro topped our Shop TODAY Hair Awards as "Best Overall Hairdryer," with the promise to dry hair five times faster than other blow dryers — and that was a challenge I was happy to accept.

Wavytalk Turblow Pro

Why I like the Wavytalk Turblow Pro Hair Dryer

It's powerful and efficient

I was blown away when I first switched it on — literally. It's so compact and lightweight; I was not expecting the wind power of this hair dryer. There are three speeds, and the lowest speed is similar to a standard hair dryer, while the highest speed feels like a Category 5 hurricane.

The first time I used it, I opted for a simple rough dry to test how quickly it would dry my hair. I was floored at how fast it worked. Normally, it takes over 15 minutes to rough-dry my entire mane from soaking wet. The Turblow Pro dried it in what felt like half the time — under 10 minutes! I was out of the shower and into my bed with completely dry hair in record time.

It's innovative and dries smoothly with less damage

When it comes to a full blowout, I will admit I'm more partial to a multistyler because it's easier for me to use. I'm just not good with a dryer and a separate brush, but I still wanted to try to style my hair. The dryer comes with two attachments (a concentrator and a diffuser) that attach magnetically, so you can easily pop one on and off. I found it much easier to attempt a styled look with the concentrator.

The brand says they design the tool with "dual high-speed air flow," so it does not use intense heat like a typical dryer. It did take a little longer to completely style compared to a rough dry, but I was still impressed with the efficiency. I was pleasantly relieved with the results, too; my hair looked smooth and shiny, even before going over it with a flat iron. So if you're actually a pro at working with a dryer and a brush, you'll have even better and quicker results.

It's travel-friendly

Another win for the Wavytalk? Its compact size and lightweight design make it perfect for traveling. As much as I love a multi-styler, they're a pain and bulky to pack in a suitcase, so I usually leave it and hope the hotel room has a decent dryer. This option could easily fit in a small nook or pocket of your carry-on.

What to consider

While I loved the high-power speed of this hairdryer, it might be too powerful for some. If you have very fine hair, I suggest trying the low or medium speed first before blasting it and ending up with tangled hair, then work your way up to the high speed to see if your hair type can withstand the gale force winds.

But no matter your hair type, this award-winner will dry your hair faster than any other dryer on the market.
