My sleep schedule is never consistent. I am physically exhausted at least once or twice a week, but that doesn't mean I want to look exhausted, too.
Concealer is a quick remedy I use, like many, to cover up any hyperpigmentation, acne and signs of poor sleep. But since I naturally have dark under eyes (those hints of purple never seem to go away!), concealer alone is not always enough to camouflage them fully. In my opinion, I've looked sleepy since the womb.
My under eyes, much like the rest of my skin, are very dry. I have to be cautious with the formulas I use or else I’ll experience creasing, tightness, enhanced dry spots or all of the above.
Although I've (somewhat) learned to embrace my dark circles, that doesn't mean I always love having them in full view. To help fake a rested facade along my complexion, I've finally convinced myself to enter the color corrector scene.
Kosas Revealer Extra Bright Color Corrector
- Brightening
- Lightweight formula
- Contains skin care
- A little goes a long way
Shade range: 5 | Key ingredients: Hyaluronic acid, caffeine, dipeptide-two and acetyl tetrapeptide-five | Coverage: Full | Formulation: Liquid-cream | Other: Vegan, gluten and cruelty-free
Not all color correctors are alike, though — something I've learned the hard way. The color correctors I've previously tried have either been too pigmented or difficult to blend, leaving my under eyes looking more pink and peach than my concealer shade. It's made me stay clear of these types of products as a whole.
Depending on the shade, color correctors can reduce redness, even skin tone, brighten under eyes and more. And like many color correctors, the Kosas Revealer Extra Bright Serum-Powered Color Corrector is designed to conceal and even out discoloration. Except, this product is uniquely formulated with skin care to simultaneously cover and treat under eyes as you wear.
How I tried the Kosas Revealer Extra Bright Color Corrector
If you've previously used Kosas' Revealer Concealer, finding your shade match is quite simple. The five shades in the Revealer Color Corrector go hand-in-hand with your Revealer Concealer shade, per the map below:
- Magic: A pink for very light to light skin tones. Best with Revealer Concealer shades 0.5N, 0.7C, 1N, 1.5C, 2W, 2.3N, 2.5C and 2.6C.
- Illusion: A pink peach for light to medium skin tones. Best with Revealer Concealer shades 03W, 3.2O, 3.5W, 3.6C, 3.8N and 04N.
- Fantasy: A peach for light-medium to medium-deep skin tones. Best with Revealer Concealer shades 4.5N, 05W, 5.3C, 5.5O, 5.8N, 06O, 6.2N, 6.3N, 6.5O and 6.8W.
- Alchemy: A orange peach for medium-deep to deep skin tones. Best with Revealer Concealer shades 07N, 7.3N, 7.5W, 7.8N, 08W, 8.2W, 8.5C, 8.7N, 8.8N and 9.1N.
- Supernatural: A red peach for deep to rich-deep skin tones. Best with Revealer Concealer shades 9.5N, 10W and 10.5N.
My Revealer Concealer shade alternates between 04N and 5.5O. I can use the shades Illusion or Fantasy, but since I'm lighter toned during the winter, I've been reaching for Illusion. If you don't own the Revealer Concealer, don't fret: Kosas also has an online shade match quiz to find your best Revealer Color Corrector shade.

Best ways to apply
The brand suggests a three dot method when using their Revealer Color Corrector. According to the brand, you should apply a dot in the inner corner, one in the middle and one in the outer corner, then blend with your desired tool. I followed this method and used a brush to blend over my discoloration, but a beauty sponge works just as well. Then, follow up with your favorite concealer right on top the blended area.
In my experience, it's best not to blend your concealer and the color corrector together. I used the Kosas' Revealer Concealer and my other trusty concealer to see if there was a noticeable difference. When applying both concealers after blending the Color Corrector, I received the most seamless coverage.

What I like
The formula doesn't "sit" on the skin
Since the formula is serum-based, the texture is extra smooth. It's a liquid-cream formulation, but the product doesn't slip and slide on the skin. The formula also doesn't sit on top. Once blended, it's smooth, comfortable and undetectable (in terms of wear), just like what you'd experience from a serum.
Kosas adds that you should have no creasing or cakiness, even when layered with concealer. While testing the product, I didn't notice the formula settling awkwardly under my eyes.
It brightens and treats the skin
I appreciate the full and longwear coverage the Revealer Color Corrector offers because it equals to less product used. But as it helps conceal dark circles and discoloration, the product treats these areas, too.
According to the brand, the product is supercharged with caffeine, pink algae extract, hyaluronic acid, peptides and other trusty ingredients that help de-puff, fight discoloration and reduce sagging. It's equally both a corrector and dark circle serum in one.
Plus, it’s a treat for all skin types since the formula is non-comedogenic, meaning it shouldn’t clog pores or cause breakouts.
You can wear it on its own
For those "no makeup" makeup days, I’ve loved wearing the Revealer Extra Bright Color Corrector on its own. The formula is incredibly lightweight and has just the right amount of opaqueness, so with just a light base (or none at all), the product blends perfectly with my skin tone.
Kosas Revealer Concealer vs. Kosas Revealer Color Corrector
If you're interested in both Kosas' color corrector and concealer, it's important to know their differences. The first thing you might notice about the two is that the Kosas Revealer Color Corrector has completely different undertones than the Revealer Concealer. To help combat blue-purple and green under eyes, the color corrector ranges in pink, peach and orange tones.
Their brushes are also distinctly different. The Revealer Concealer is longer and a tad wider/flat to conceal more of the under eye at once. The Revealer Color Corrector, on the other hand, is smaller and angled to precisely touch-up the hard-to-reach places.

What to consider
A little goes a long way
When it comes to the color corrector, you only need a dot of product to cover the under eyes. During my review, just a single dot sufficed for concealing my under eyes (every under eye area is different, though). I found this method most effective for controlling the amount of product used. Plus, this means the color corrector should last you a long time.
Results may take time
While the brand’s personal study shows that users noticed an improvement in their dark circles and fine lines (when used on bare skin), I’m still testing the color corrector to see if the skin care results live up to the hype. However, it’s an impressive product for a quick fix solution. You also can’t drastically change genetic dark circles, compared to age-related and allergy-induced ones.
Who is the Kosas Revealer Extra Bright Color Corrector best for?
This product is best for anyone looking for 'skin care-meets-makeup' formulas. It feels like a serum and works like one, too, so those who are looking to brighten the under eyes, outside of makeup, will appreciate the product's benefits. You may even learn to love your under eyes while you're at it.
