Chef notes

Summer is all about easy fun, and this drink is exactly that. It only has four ingredients, and it will always guarantee a good time!

Technique tip: Picking the juiciest lime for a margarita, make sure the skin is as smooth as a baby's bottom. You also want the lime to give a little when you press on it. If the limes have a lot of visible pores, it is going to be dry. To keep your drinks cold and not watered-down, freeze freshly cut up fruit like cut lemons, peaches or berries, then place in the beverage of your choice. It will chill the drink and even add a fresh flavor.

Swap option: Substitute jalapeño tequila for a spicy version of this delicious drink.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups watermelon cubes
  • 1/4 cup lime juice (about 3 limes)
  • 1/3 cup silver tequila
  • 1 tablespoon agave
  • honey, for the rim
  • chile-lime salt or sugar, for the rim

Preparation

1.

Add diced watermelon to blender or food processor and blend until it is juicy.

2.

Combine the watermelon juice, lime juice, tequila and agave in a bowl or shake the mixture in a cocktail shaker if you have one. Taste it and add more sweetener, if needed.

3.

Rub honey on the rim of the glasses. Dip each glass upside down onto the small plate that has some chile-lime salt or sugar on it. This step is optional, but it does make it look lovely.

4.

Add ice cubes and pour in the watermelon mix.
