As a full-time writer and small business owner, the idea of reducing screen time has always felt like an achievable goal… for other people. See, I love my work. This means I’ve learned to love being on my laptop, my phone and my iMac at all hours of the day despite the eye strain and stress headaches that this can cause.

In the past, it seemed that the only way to fix this particular problem was to change my career path. But I put in too much effort for too many years to become a full-time entrepreneur and then let some measly headaches get in my way! My solution? The Renpho Eyeris Eye Massager.

What is the Renpho Eyeris 1 Eye Massager?

In short, this futuristic-looking product is intended to massage the eyes via its heated and non-heated settings. Through these various controls, the device offers oscillating pressure, rhythmic percussion massage, heated massage, amongst others to help soothe and relax the eye area.

My experience

Before giving the massager a try, I’ll admit that I had low hopes for this product. After spending over 13 hours working on screens during the day, it seemed silly to expect very much out of just 15 minutes of heat and compression. I’m happy to admit that I was wrong.

There are only three buttons on the machine, so changing the settings is easy enough to figure out — especially for others who, like me, are averse to reading instruction booklets.

The power button serves as an on/off switch while also controlling which built-in mode is being used: compression with heat, compression with heat and vibration, compression only, heat only or vibration only. (I quickly became partial to the compression and heat combo, but I recommend giving them all a try.)

The compression button can change the strength of the compression as well as turn the built-in voice on or off. Early on, I didn’t think that I would like keeping the instructional voice on. Lately, though, I’ve been treating this voice like a meditation guide who welcomes me into my fifteen minutes of relaxation and lets me know when it’s coming to an end.

The only other button is for volume and music control. Since finding my preferred volume during my first use, I actually haven’t touched this button again.

Why I like it

It offers me a screen-free moment during my day

Apart from hot baths, my self-care routines are pretty minimal. But using this massager is such an easy and comfortable experience that it’s become a staple in my bedtime routine. Dedicating 15 minutes to undoing some of my digital eye strain has been a welcome, screen-free addition to the end of my days.

The product is easy to use and adjust

Truthfully, I also have a pretty big head, but the fit on this is fantastic. The strap is both adjustable and elasticized so it’s easy to size up or down without taking the mask off and on numerous times. The heat settings also manage to toe the line between subtle and overly noticeable, all without ever getting too hot, so it really is as easy as popping the mask on, hitting the power button, and relaxing in bed.

There is built in relaxation music so, while you can connect the mask to other devices with bluetooth, that’s a feature that I rarely use. When I’m using the music, heat, compression, and vibration mode — aka the loudest mode possible — it does make a little bit of noise. But it’s yet to scare my 14-year-old cat away from me in bed, so I’m going to label this as decently quiet.

It can potentially help relieve headaches and more

While testing out this product, I actually traveled to Vegas for a six day vacation and came back with a sinus infection. I’ve found that this massager is helpful for both hangover relief and sinus care, in addition to helping address my screen time headaches.

What to consider

I’ve found that the massager lasts three to four uses before needing to be charged, which is pretty decent battery life in my book. The power button can be a little finicky if the battery’s running low, but that’s been the only downside to this massager.

Who is the Renpho Eyeris 1 Eye Massager best for?

I think this is a great gift for people who work remotely or who are looking to integrate a little more self-care into their daily lives. It can feel challenging to find fifteen minutes to lay down and focus solely on relaxation and headache relief, but I think that means we need to prioritize it even more.

That said, the brand suggests that users who have undergone eye operations, retina conditions, cataracts, glaucoma and similar health concerns avoid using the product.

As of late, the device currently has over 16,600 five-star reviews on Amazon, with a number of customers noting that it meets (and exceeds!) expectations, so it's clearly a fan favorite at the moment.
