Fall is officially underway! Although it seems that summer came and left all too quickly, fall is something to look forward to: The holidays are almost here, cooler weather and, of course, our yearly beauty routine revamp.
Fall doesn't only require us to update our closets to accommodate the seasonal changes; our skin, hair and makeup need to change, too. So, to prevent pesky split ends and flaky dry spots, we revamp our beauty routines at this time of year.
To help us out during this transitional period, NewBeauty Senior Editor-At-Large Sarah Eggenberger shared with TODAY some beauty tips and a few of her favorite fall essentials, from an affordable moisturizer to a protective hair serum. Keep reading to discover some of the picks.

"Switch your lightweight summer gel moisturizer to a ceramide-packed cream to strengthen your skin’s barrier and lock in moisture against the cooler, drier air," says Eggenberger. This one from The Inkey List contains 0.2% bioactive ceramides to smooth and support the skin barrier.
Dieux Tattoo Forever Eye Mask
With cool weather comes dry skin, everywhere. Not only on your hands, elbows and parts of the face, but your under-eyes, too. "Use these patches after applying your favorite eye cream to lock in moisture and reduce puffiness, as cooler temperatures cause dryness," recommends Eggenberger. They're also reusable so you can use them all season long.
Kevyn Aucoin Foundation Balm
Although we love our matte foundations for their seamless coverage, some might be too drying for fall. Eggenberger recommends replacing the product with a more hydrating formula to help achieve a smoother coverage, such as this one from Kevyn Aucoin. The balm foundation is ideal for fall "when the skin can start to feel dry and needs a soft, nourishing base," she adds.

Chapped lips are never fun, and are often common as the weather gets cooler. So, use a thicker and more nourishing lip balm to keep your pout in top shape all season. "Lips often get neglected, but they’re one of the first areas to show signs of dehydration in colder weather," notes Eggenberger. "Start using this nourishing lip balm regularly to prevent chapping and cracking, applying it morning and night, and reapply during the day as needed to keep lips soft and hydrated."
Goldie Locks Signature Hair Serum
With a blend of rose water, marula oil, biotin and other strengthening ingredients, this hair serum from Goldie Locks is a powerhouse for keeping your strands healthy, manageable and stronger than ever, especially during the fall. This is why Eggenberger recommends replacing your anti-frizz serum for a product like the one above "to lock in moisture and protect strands from the drying effects of cooler weather."
