I’m about to let you in on a little secret. I only wash my hair once a week. All right, if I’m being completely honest … it’s more like every eight to 10 days. This wasn’t always the case. Why I tried the Amika Perk Up Dry Shampoo

I’ve long been a fan of Amika’s hair products and tools. Their shampoo, conditioner and hair mask never leave my shower, and I’ve used one of their curling wands for a decade. So it stands to reason that I’d need to try their dry shampoo, too. It became an immediate favorite and a staple of my haircare routine. I even own it in both the travel- and full-size versions, so I never have to be without it. (Perish the thought!)

It doesn’t leave a white cast

I’ve tried my fair share of dry shampoos in the past. This one is head and shoulders above the rest (pun intended), thanks to a variety of features.

Since I’m a dark brunette, most dry shampoos leave an unsightly white cast throughout my mane — and, let’s face it, that pretty much defeats the purpose of using one in the first place. Not so with Amika Perk Up, which disappears immediately upon application. No whiteness, no flakes, just a whole lot of invisible dry shampoo making my roots a lot less greasy.

My hair feels super soft and looks voluminous

The love doesn’t stop there. This dry shampoo doesn’t make my hair feel crunchy or stiff like some others I've tried. Every single strand is still touchably soft and smooth.

And, my hair is super thick and voluminous on its own, so I typically don’t reach for volumizers. But after a few days, it does actually need a little perking up. Thank goodness that’s right in the name of this product! It adds the slightest hint of volume to my roots and makes it look like I just stepped out of the salon with a fresh blowout.

It isn’t sickeningly sweet

So many other dry shampoos that I've used have scents that are just not fun to smell all day long. Honestly, I really don’t like it when I toss my hair and am hit with wafts of cloying aromas. This one does just the opposite — it sinks into my strands with a fresh, barely-there aroma that dissipates in seconds.

The application is super simple

I start by parting my hair down the middle. I hold the bottle about six inches away from my scalp and spray a few times along my partline and around my temples. Then, I flip my hair over and spritz a couple of times along the back of my scalp. To finish, I flip my hair back over and massage the product in for a few seconds. And voilà!

My hair actually feels cleaner

Above all, my hair just feels clean. Before applying this dry shampoo, my roots were pretty darn greasy and oily. The cleanliness is immediate! In fact, my friend who helped me take photos for this story actually gasped aloud when I sprayed it into my roots and said, “WOW! Your hair really does look better!”

What to consider

The bottle has a spray top that comes out pretty liberally. A little goes a long way, so don’t push too hard on the top or you’ll have way too much product to work with.

If you’ve been needing a way to extend your blowout past day two, Amika Perk Up Dry Shampoo is definitely worth a spritz.
