Throughout all my years of living in different homes, my answer for a scratch in the wall, a stain on the counter or a scuff mark on the wood floor or shoe has always been — Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. I keep a stock of them in my cleaning rotation, and they are always my first line of defense for when something goes wrong in my home.

When I got news that Mr. Clean was cooking up something new and exciting for their 20th anniversary (along with coming out of retirement), the clean freak in me knew I had to get my hands on the new launches and find out what was changing.

After talking with Morgan Eberhard, a Mr. Clean Principal Scientist, I found out that Mr. Clean's new Magic Eraser is made with five times stronger foam that is bigger and more durable than previous models. This means it will be tougher on grime and last longer in your household. But that's not the only change the brand is making. Read on to learn more.

What we think of the new Magic Eraser Shower & Tub + New Scrubber

Mr. Clean Shower & Tub Scrubber, Starter Kit, 1 Scrubber & 2 Erasers

The new shower and tub kit comes with a scrubbing brush that you can fit the magic eraser in. The brush was built after customer feedback to help evenly distribute pressure throughout the eraser so it wears down better with time and use, making it last up to five times longer. The eraser also has a cleaning solution embedded in it that activates with water.

The eraser is made to be more durable with a two times stronger eraser, according to the brand. The brush handle is ergonomically designed, and you can turn the brush to fit different areas of your tub without having to bend and contort your body in ways that could be painful when cleaning a tub.

I was most excited to try out the new bathroom/shower Magic Eraser and the new scrubbing brush because my tiles have deep grout that can get really dirty. I followed the instructions of attaching the eraser to the correct spot on the brush/squeegee, and then I wet the eraser and pushed down on the brush to make it get foamy. I then got to work on my tiles.

I use red hair shampoo, so my tiles turn a gross brown color, and I have not been able to get them clean in months. With this brush, I was able to angle the Magic Eraser in new ways and push down hard on it to get deep into the cracks. The squeegee also made it easy to guide the soap and debris down my wall to the drain. I loved that I could hang the brush directly on my shower side too.

Associate editor, Kamari Stewart-Jackson, also tried these new releases from the brand and says, “I’ve used the Mr. Clean bathroom sponges before, but this new-and-improved version has really impressed me with the power of the cleaning agent in the sponge and the new handle. I use a color-depositing hair mask that is great on my hair but tough on my shower walls with the splashback that occurs when I’m rinsing it out. I’ve tried regular multipurpose sprays, and they didn’t work to actually remove the remaining mask from the walls, but the Mr. Clean sponges removed it with just a few swipes. It was a pleasant surprise to see how easy it was to clean. I’ve used the same sponge twice so far, and the second time was just as effective and impressive as the first.”

What we think of the new Magic Eraser Whole Home Extra Durable

This eraser is made with 25% more material, so it is bigger (aka will last longer) and fits better in the hand, according to the brand. You can use it on over 100 places around your home, including sneakers, furniture, luggage and more.

Now I am super familiar with the whole home Magic Eraser, so when I pulled this new one out of the box, I was so surprised by how much bigger it was than the original. Usually, I go through one in a single cleaning session on my walls.

I activated this one with water and then started using it on my kitchen walls that were covered in scuffs, food residue and other obscure stains. It worked so well, next thing I knew, I had hit the hour mark of going around my whole apartment with this Magic Eraser. And the best part? It wasn’t even halfway done! I could save it for a whole other cleaning session.

What we think of the new Magic Eraser Kitchen Grease

For those grease and food stains that you just can't get off of your stove, oven and microwave — this might do the trick. The new version is made with a "denser, longer-lasting foam," according to Eberhard. You can use it on your fridge, microwave, oven, stove, sink and more. The Dawn dish soap inside also helps cut through the grease.

For my kitchen, my oven has seen better days, and right now it smokes up a lot whenever I use it because there is so much caked-up debris on the bottom of the oven. Similar to the bathroom Magic Eraser, this one has Dawn dish soap embedded into the eraser that activates with water. I let it foam up, and then with very little effort at all, I was able to get the bottom of my oven to be completely clean in minutes. It cut through burnt food and oil perfectly.

I liked how the size of the eraser was larger because I could cover more surface area, and I could save this eraser to use later, too. Jackson-Stewart also used these grease sponges and said, “My stove was so clean and sparkly that I didn’t want to cook again for another few days out of fear of getting it dirty again. But of course, I have more sponges on deck to keep it clean, so I’m not worried when the inevitable spills and splashes occur.”

Mr. Clean has also released new scents of its popular multi-purpose cleaner. The new scents are made to leave a lasting, clean scent in your home for hours after you mop. Eberhard shared that the new scents include ocean, Hawaii aloha and watermelon.

I smelled the Hawaii aloha version, and it smells like an expensive candle that I can't wait to use on my floors.

Frequently asked questions

The new Magic Eraser is made with more material and five times the durability.

The brush allows you to apply even pressure on your tiles and tub to prevent the eraser from wearing down too much. You can also use the scrubber to wipe away soap and water after cleaning.

How we tested the new Magic Erasers

Two of our editors who consistently cover cleaning-related content, and rigorously test Ranked products, tested these new launches from Mr. Clean. They both are very familiar with the brand and have been using it for years. They tested them on the proper surfaces and messes and followed the directions to make sure they were using the product correctly. They tested the erasers on multiple areas of their home to see how they stacked up compared to the original version.
