"Woven bags are having a moment because they tap into the carefree spirit we’re all craving this season," says Stitch Fix Stylist Cheri Timm Hendricks. Woven bags are highly delicate, so for maintaining their appearance, you'll want to handle them with care.
Chataigne advises using an old toothbrush and warm water to gently cleanse away any surface dirt. But before cleansing, "Turn the bag upside down and give it a gentle shake to remove dust or crumbs. You can also use a handheld vacuum or lint roller to get into corners," she says, especially if you've just been outdoors.
You can use a few drops of soap with the warm water to spot clean "Dip a cloth or sponge in the solution, wring it out well (don’t soak!), and dab or gently wipe dirty spots," Chataigne notes. If there are tougher spots, you can "lightly scrub and add a bit of baking soda. Be sure to pat dry!," the style expert adds.
If your bag is made from natural fibers, Hendricks recommends to "spot-clean with a mild soap and water solution" by blotting and not scrubbing. But for all woven bags: "Just skip the washing machine to be safe!"
You may find that some woven bags come lined and unlined. For unlined woven bags, smaller items might run the risk of slipping through.
"Woven bags may look effortlessly breezy, but they can be tricky when it comes to storage," highlights Hendricks. "Keep your essentials in smaller pouches or zippered minis to avoid losing your lip balm! Bonus: It's a chance to play with fun prints and textures inside your bag, too!" Bag inserts are also an option to add more shape to the bag.
"Rooted in natural textures like raffia, jute, and straw, [woven bags] tap into the season’s love for organic, earthy aesthetics while aligning with the quiet luxury and sustainability movements," says Stein. "They’re versatile enough to go from the beach to drinks with ease," so woven bags can easily make the most casual outfit effortless. Pair them with a sundress, a swim cover up or with a flowing skirt for your next trip. "General tip [is to] stick to lighter color bags for light-colored clothing, and dark woven bags for a dark colored fit," advises Chataigne.
But "If you’re not actually headed to a far-flung destination, finish the look with timeless white sneakers or feminine ballet flats and your favorite spring jacket to ensure your look is practical enough for spring’s temperamental transitional weather," Hendricks also recommends.
