>>> overseas this is a big day for the queen, the royal family marking 60 years since her coronation with a service at westminster abbey . keir simmonds is here.

>> reporter: incredible to think of the challenges the queen has faced over the last 60 years, she's seen 12 presidents but as she celebrates today she'll be worrying about the risks and challenges the future holds for her children and grandchildren. and here they are. her heir, charles, his heir, william with wife kate close to delivering an heir to wil ym yam. three, almost four generations celebrating a remarkable reign in the abbey where queen elizabeth was crowned, 60 years ago her coronation was broadcast from here, a first at the time. six decades later, so much has changed. there have been the scandals, prince harry lamenting in an interview this year a world where everyone has a cell phone camera. he of course was caught on one in las vegas .

>> i don't believe there is any such thing as private life anymore. i'm not going to sit here, everybody knows about the incident, every single mobile phone has a camera, you can't move an inch without someone judging you and you know, i suppose that's just the way life goes.

>> reporter: the media now part of the royals' lives as william and kate prepare to bring a new life into the world.

>> i get the impression the duchess of cambridge, a new mom is going to want to be proudly displaying this baby but will william be pulling her back in that?

>> reporter: with a great grandchild on the way and celebrating the anniversary of her coronation the queen has reason to smile at her success or perhaps worrying a little about the modern pressures on her royal family . and the queen has never given an interview but she is now on facebook and perhaps another sign of the changing times , the duke of edinburgh was feeling too unwell to attend the gala but returning today with the pomp and pageantry and made it by her side as he has been all these years.

>> all right, keir simmons at buckingham palace , they do know how to party.

>> i feel sorry because he wasn't feeling well last year for the jubilee and obviously still feeling some effects.
