Styling winter apparel can sometimes be tricky. We might automatically lean towards bundling up, but with the right tools, we can still dress to impress during the season without sacrificing warmth.

If you’re still unsure of how to style your cold-weather apparel, though, don’t fret: TODAY contributor Sarah Eggenberger — in accordance with Jessie Ajluni, who assisted in styling — recently shared with TODAY some of her suggestions on how to dress warm and stylish in the winter, including some examples from top-rated brands like Aritzia, Abercrombie & Fitch and more.

Some of her tips? Instead of a solid color winter coat, opt for one that with a pop of color. If you’re going for neutrals, look for an outer layer or base layer with a bit of texture, among other helpful tricks for styling.

The long winter coat

Longer coats are equally practical as they are trendy. If you’re on the market for yourself, Eggenberger recommends “investing in a neutral-colored coat with an interesting texture or a small pattern.” Although we might be used to reaching for blacks, browns and other muted tones, she says these kinds of details “will go with most of your wardrobe, but will add a level of sophistication to a look.”

But as a helpful tip: “Use your coat as your style north star,” Eggenberger notes. Bring in some color or print in your coat and accessories, too, for a bit of dimension.

For men:

Our first thought when it comes to layering is making sure we're well bundled up. But with the right tricks, bundling up can keep you warm and chic for the cold.
