Officials say Kentucky State Police Trooper Joseph Cameron Ponder was in pursuit of a driver who fled a traffic stop Sunday night when the suspect he was chasing abruptly stopped, causing a collision with the trooper, before opening fire on the police vehicle. Suspect Joseph Thomas Johnson-Shanks fled on foot, and police say he is likely still armed.
