Cindy Crawford On Mahjong, Beauty Must-Haves and Turning 60

Including her favorite drugstore mascara and the one product that has made the biggest difference in her hair.
TODAY

At 60, supermodel and businesswoman Cindy Crawford seems to get more done in eight hours than most of us do in a week.

Take yesterday, for example. Crawford jumped from TODAY With Jenna & Sheinelle to the Forbes’ Power Women Summit to an intimate panel discussion — all before sitting down with Shop TODAY. If the marathon stretch for the multi-hyphenate is any indication, she isn’t planning on slowing down anytime soon.

“We used to be like ‘60 is the new 40,’” Crawford reflects. “I was like, ‘no, 60 is the new 60’ — like, we don’t have to be like what we thought our grandmother’s 60 was or even our mother’s 60 ... I don’t feel old. I feel I’m still working. I still love what I’m doing.”

Remaining consistent through the decades seems to be a recurring theme for the Meaningful Beauty founder. She confirms her famed “basic face” philosophy from the ‘90s, which states that your everyday makeup should take no more than five minutes, still holds up. “If anything, I’d probably say three minutes now,” Crawford jokes.

It’s a beauty rule she has passed down to her daughter, Kaia Gerber, 25, who has been honoring Crawford’s legacy as a model while also making a name for herself as an actress, starring alongside Homer Gere in FX’s “The Shards.” Outside of the “less is more” beauty wisdom, Crawford does her best to keep the unsolicited motherly advice to a minimum.

“My mom doesn’t really give advice unless I ask for it, and I try to follow in her footsteps,” Crawford admits. “I’m probably not quite as good at it as her ... Sometimes [Kaia] takes my advice, sometimes she doesn’t. I love that she has so much confidence.”

Prioritizing fun and balance in all areas of her routine has been a goal of Crawford’s as she’s aged, as she’s worked to carve out space for the things that fill her cup. “I definitely am more intentional about who I spend time with and making time for my family and my friends, and, you know, wellness,” Crawford says. “You know, I want to feel as good as I can, do as much as I can, while I am lucky to be breathing air.”

To share more about her beauty tips and life at 60, Crawford spoke with us on behalf of Upneeq, a prescription eye drop for low-lying eyelids (a brand she originally found through her dermatologist and has since partnered with). As part of our Shopping Diaries series, Crawford is disclosing some of her favorite products, including the finds Gerber has put her onto, her hair care must-haves and the recent hobby she can’t get enough of.

Shopping Diaries: Cindy Crawford

Her favorite drugstore beauty product:

Maybelline Great Lash Mascara

With its instantly recognizable pink and green packaging, Maybelline’s Great Lash Mascara has maintained its popularity for decades. It’s perhaps fitting then that Crawford, an icon herself, names it an affordable favorite.

“I definitely am a fan of drugstore mascaras,” Crawford says. “I don’t feel like you have to spend a lot of money on mascara, because you also want to toss them out a lot because you don’t want to get, you know, bacteria in there.”

Her tried-and-true brow product:

Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz Ultra-Slim Precision Detailing Eyebrow Pencil

“I’ll work with, like, a great makeup artist or something, and they’ll have something, and I’m like, ‘okay, what is that? Let me try that for a while.’ But then I do find I end up going back to my old staples,” Crawford says.

She names Anastasia Beverly Hills’ eyebrow pencil, which also earned Shop TODAY’s badge of approval in our Ranked series, as one of her longtime go-to makeup products.

The lightweight foundation so good, she skips concealer:

Armani Beauty Luminous Silk Natural Glow Foundation

“I found that as I’ve gotten older, and just the style has changed; I wear less makeup now ... I don’t really use concealer for my personal life. Like, I like a little tinted moisturizer or a very thin foundation,” Crawford says. “I love the Armani foundation.”

Her go-to eyeshadow quad:

Charlotte Tilbury Luxury Eyeshadow Palette

With a harmonious color palette, it’s easy to mix and match the shades in this Charlotte Tilbury quad to create different eye makeup looks for day and night. A basic four-toned palette of matte, neutral shadows called “The Sophisticate” is Crawford’s pick. “I find her stuff very easy for real women to wear in real life,” she adds, noting that she is also a fan of the brand’s blushes.

The hairspray that helps her blowout last for days:

Living Proof Style Lab Flex Hairspray

“I love the Living Proof, the black hairspray, because it does not build up on the hair,” Crawford shares. “It wouldn’t be good for a photoshoot because it wouldn’t have enough hold. .. But like, me? I don’t like to be blow-drying every day. If I take the time to blow dry my hair, I want it to last three days.”

“One of my little secrets is I brush it at night and then go upside down and put it in a loose top knot on the top of my head with, like, one pin, and that keeps it from getting fuzzy,” Crawford offers. “And then when I take it down at night, I have, like, a nice bend in it as well.”

The product that has changed her hair the most:

Meaningful Beauty Restorative Scalp Treatment

“I mean, your hair does change [as you age]. No one really prepares you for that ... you know you’re gonna eventually get gray hair, but no one prepares you for that texture,” Crawford divulges. “We do hair care at Meaningful Beauty now as well because of that, because I was like, ‘wait, no one told me about this.’ So, we kind of use the same approach that we had for skin care for hair care.”

“I would say the product that has changed mine the most is the scalp spray,” Crawford notes. “It’s like watering the garden. You need a good environment to grow good hair.”

Her must-have protein for a busy day:

SunLife Organic Grass-Fed Whey Protein Powder

Outside of Upneeq — and a double espresso in the morning — Crawford says making sure she has time to eat protein is key to helping her power through a packed schedule. Rather than reaching for a sugary fix, Crawford advocates “it’s understanding it’s better to eat, like, a little bit of protein all day long to keep going.”

“I make my own shake,” Crawford adds. “I love SunLife. And, actually, we have them in New York — I mean, we have it in LA, but there’s one here too — but normally I just make it at home.”

Crawford didn’t name a particular flavor as her go-to, but this organic, grass-fed option is SunLife Organics’ bestselling protein powder, which comes in vanilla and chocolate varieties.

The oil she pairs with her gua sha:

Meaningful Beauty Vitamin C Bi-Phase Brightening Oil

For the first 30 minutes of each day, Crawford says she avoids looking at her phone. Instead, she likes to begin her morning by using a gua sha with an oil. This bi-phase option from her brand, Meaningful Beauty, contains brightening vitamin C and nourishing squalane to help revive the appearance of dull morning skin.

Her travel-friendly mahjong set:

Mahj to go... Canvas Travel Set

Screen-free analog hobbies like mahjong are having a major moment in 2026, and Crawford counts herself among the old-school pastime enthusiasts. Her first foray into the game was with a set from a friend’s brand.

“My friend who taught me, she’s in my mommy group,” Crawford shares. “She has a company called ‘Mahj to go...’ so I have a ‘Mahj to go ...’ set.”

As much as Crawford enjoys playing with her friends, she says she has yet to whip her set out at family game night.

“None of my family will play yet! None of them have learned... I think Kaia would really like it. I think my husband would like it. I don’t think Presley would like it,” Crawford lightheartedly quips. “He doesn’t like games.”

Her cute mahjong set:

The Mahjong Line: The Classic Line Mahjong Tiles

“I also have one from ... The Mahjong Line, which is really cute,” Crawford shares. “They do themed sets. They’ll do, like, a Western set or a beach set, but I still prefer the classic tiles. I want to know that a crack’s a crack and a bam is a bam!”

“There’s something nice about having your hands on the tiles,” Crawford adds. “I guess I’m kind of a purist in that way. Like, I like just basic ‘mahj.’”

The beauty find her daughter inspired her to try:

Sweed Beauty Eyelash Growth Serum

Crawford admits it’s hard for her to add new products into her nighttime routine, which she aims to keep as short as possible. However, she has made an exception for a couple of favorites that her daughter has inspired her to try.

“I always look at what she’s using or whatever, and she probably does the same to me,” Crawford says, naming this eyelash serum she was using for a stint.

“I mean, any advice I would try to give Kaia is way more about, like, who she is as a woman than how she’s styling her hair or makeup or whatever,” Crawford adds. “She seems to have that covered. She’s having fun with it ... We forget, as women, that makeup, hair is supposed to be fun. It’s not supposed to feel like a pressure.”

The red light tool her daughter is “obsessed” with:

Celluma Home

Another staple in Crawford’s routine is a red light device. While she didn’t share the exact model she uses, she credits Gerber for introducing her to this brand.

“My daughter got me a Celluma one year, and she’s, like, obsessed with it, so I was like, ‘well, she knows,’” Crawford praises. As with most skin care tools, she cautions that moderation is the best approach, as a dermatologist recently told her that it’s possible to “overdo it” with red light. “It’s kind of like anything, just, more is not always more ... Make sure you’re using these things as directed!”
