Chef notes

Nothing beats a basic baked potato. It's the perfect side dish that can be dressed up or down. It tastes just as great with only a bit of butter as it does fully loaded with all the fixings.

Ingredients

  • 4 medium Idaho potatoes
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)

Preparation

Preheat the oven to 300°F.

Scrub the potatoes, and pierce the skin several times with a knife or fork. Place the potatoes in the preheated oven, and bake for 90 minutes, or until slightly soft and golden brown.

Slice the potatoes down the center, and serve with butter, salt and black pepper. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the top, if desired.
