In past generations, there was often a single “H” name for girls that dominated.
“First came Helen, then there was Heather, which was followed by Hannah,” Laura Wattenberg, creator of Namerology, tells TODAY.com. “But things are a little different now. There’s no single 'H' name that’s really dominant aside from Harper.”
Harper is currently No. 11 on the Social Security Administration's popular names list.
Wattenberg has noticed an uptick in word names such as Haven, Halo and Harmony. She says silent "H" names are also rising in popularity (think Honor and Honesty.)
“We’re also seeing some of the older names come back in. Hazel is big. You’re gonna notice a few more Helens and Helenas,” Wattenberg says. “Parents are also giving their daughter’s old fashioned nicknames like Hattie and Halle.
Famous female personalities with "H" names include: Helen Mirren, Halle Berry, Hilary Swank, Hayden Panettiere, Heidi Klum, Haley Lu Richardson, Hailey Baldwin and Harper Lee.
TODAY’s Hoda Kotb shares an “H” name with both of her daughters, Hope and Haley. Other celebrities who have chosen "H" names for the daughters include: Halo (Nick Cannon), Harlow (Nicole Richie), Harper (Tiffani Thiessen), Hattie (Tori Spelling), Hazel (John Krasinski), Helen (Robert De Niro), Honey (Sadie Robertson), Honor (Jessica Alba) and Hannah (Bill Hader).
