Pastry Cheese Straws

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cup finely shredded parmigiana-reggiano -one package frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 cup frozen puff pastry
  • 1 cup large egg
  • 1 cup Sea salt
Spicy cheddar variation
  • 1 1/2 cup finely shredded parmigiana-reggiano -one package frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 cup frozen puff pastry
  • 1 cup large egg
  • 1 cup Sea salt
  • 1 1/2 cup finely shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne or ground black pepper could also do with herbs like thyme or rosemary, or with seeds

Preparation

Baking Directions:

Preheat oven to 425. 2. In small bowl, beat egg with two tablespoons water.

Roll out pastry on a floured surface into a rectangle approximately 12-by-15 inches.

Cut pastry in half crosswise with pizza cutter.

Brush each piece of pastry with egg wash.

Sprinkle cheese evenly over one piece of pastry and top with the other piece, egg side down.

Roll the pieces together lightly with rolling pin to stick them together.

Brush again with egg wash and sprinkle lightly with salt.

With pizza cutter, cut pastry into half-inch strips.

Twist and arrange on baking sheet covered with parchment or a silpat.

Freeze to bake later or bake about 12 minutes until puffed and golden brown.

Serve immediately.
