Ingredients

  • 6 potatoes
  • 1/3 cup onions
  • 2 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoon chicken broth
  • 6 tablespoon phyllo dough

Preparation

Baking Directions:

Peel the potatoes and cut in half.

Boil the potatoes in salted water until tender, then mash.

Sautee the onions in olive oil.

Mix the mashed potatoes, onions, broth, salt and pepper.

Heat the oven to 375 degrees.

Cut the stack of phyllo dough in half.

Spoon 1 cup of the potato/onion mixture into each part of the dough.

Mold the dough around the filling into medium-sized balls, pinching the ends closed.

Prick the tops lightly with a toothpick.

Place dough on a baking sheet or pan and brush lightly with butter or oil.

Bake for 30-35 minutes until the knishes turn golden brown.

Serving Directions:

Knishes can be eaten as a snack or with meats as a side dish.
