There's no better time to shine than New Year's Eve, so why not go for the gold? Here's how to add some sparkle all the way to the tips of your fingers as you ring in the new year. And the best part? This DIY manicure is so simple, anyone can do it!

Sonia Garcia of Valley Nails in New York City shows us how to get that extra twinkle in five easy steps.

1. Apply a base coat

Be sure to start with a base coat so that your design lasts long past the ball drop.

2. Use two coats of black polish

Take your cue from the inky midnight sky and use a deep shade of ebony. It'll make the glitter truly stand out!

3. Place drops of glitter at the nail base

Don't be shy! Fill up your brush with gold glitter and drop a healthy bubble of polish at the base of each nail.

4. Lightly sweep the glitter down

Using a thin paint brush, gently spread the glitter down to the tips. There should be a higher concentration of gold at the base than at the ends.

5. Finish with top coat and drying drops

Complete your DIY manicure with a shiny top coat and drying drops. Then, just slip on your party dress and go out the door. Happy New Year!
