Professional surfer Bethany Hamilton, who lost her left arm in a 2003 shark attack, took to social media Monday to celebrate some exciting news: the arrival of her newborn son.

"Blessed to welcome our son, Tobias, into the world," she wrote on her Facebook page Monday, alongside a sweet photo. "He is named after his great grandpa Tobias meaning, 'The goodness of God.'"

Hamilton, 25, said she and Christian youth minister Adam Dirks, whom she married in August 2013, are thrilled about the new addition to their family, writing, "Adam and I so in love with our lil guy and are stoked to share life with him!"

According to Hamilton's Facebook page, Tobias was born June 1, weighing 7.9 pounds upon delivery.

She also announced the happy news on Twitter, where she used the hashtag "#stokedmomma."

Hamilton was 13 when she lost her arm in that shark attack off the coast of Kauai, Hawaii, but returned to the surfing circuit — and thrived at it — just one year after the incident, inspiring the 2011 movie "Soul Surfer."

More good news followed in recent years, when she met Dirks. They announced their engagement in May 2013, and in February of this year, they publicly revealed Hamilton's pregnancy. And how did she celebrate at the six-month mark? By surfing, of course.

In March, TODAY's Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb marveled at how Hamilton rode the waves with a baby on the way. "What a beautiful photo," Kotb said.
