Malin Akerman revealed the workout routine she started to prepare for her role as Margo Banks in Netflix's hit series "The Hunting Wives."
Akerman, 47, said on the Aug. 19 episode of the “Not Skinny But Not Fat” podcast that after getting the script for the Netflix show, which includes nudity and scenes in bathing suits, she immediately started asking all of her friends for a trainer.
"I called all my friends who are in the business, and I'm like, 'Do you have a trainer that can make me look like Wonder Woman within four weeks?' Because I need to do this right now," Akerman said.
Akerman clarified she had five weeks before she had to fly out to Charlotte, North Carolina, to begin filming the show, and that she already worked out on a regular basis.
"I do Pilates, I eat well, I take care of myself. It wasn't a far, far, far stretch, but I want to look bangin', in your words," Akerman said, speaking to podcast host Amanda Hirsch.
Akerman said after calling everyone she knew, most people said for her to contact the same trainer, Grant Roberts.
"I went three times a week and started weight training with him, and did it for five weeks right before I left," she said. "And then he videoed some of my workouts that I could bring them with me."
Akerman said she found an apartment building with a gym in Charlotte so she could continue her routine.
"As much as I didn't want to work out on certain days, I just made it a nonnegotiable," she said. "And so I worked out five days a week while we were shooting."
The "27 Dresses" star did preface her workout routine with the fact that she was a figure skater for 12 years.
"So that gave me the base, the muscle memory has been there my whole life, and I've always stayed active my whole life," she said. "So it's not fair to say that that's just a five week thing — it's like a lifetime taking care of myself."
Akerman stars alongside Brittany Snow in "The Hunting Wives," which follows Snow's character, Sophie O'Neil, as she moves to Texas and gets wrapped up in Margo's circle of housewives with a lot of secrets.
Akerman's body isn't the only thing viewers are obsessed with — fans of the show had been questioning if Margo's look was due to spray tan and multiple wigs.
The actor confirmed there was no spray tan, and that she was tanning on the weekends and had body makeup added to even out her tan lines.
And there were two wigs used on the show, Akerman said, due to a mishap with the original wig made for the show.
In the first part of filming, Akerman wore a wig that wasn't fit for her head, and when another one arrived that was made for her, it was lighter than the original wig.
"As you might remember, when Jed is running for governor, you see me getting glammed up, and I've got tin foil in my hair, on the wig, because the new wig was lighter," she said.
"And so, like, 'How are we going to pull this off? Well, we'll just pretend like she just got it lightened.' So it was two different wigs," she added. "And then we're like, we'll just shape it a little different, because she's now the governor's wife, and she's going to make her hair look a little different."
Akerman said she couldn't dye her hair due to a "bit of a thyroid issue," so she said her "hair quality wasn't great at the time."
"So thinking of dyeing it and putting extensions in and stuff, it was just gonna start falling out," she said. "But I think if we get a second season, we’re gonna go with the dyeing and clip-ins ... maybe we’ll try it."
