At Sunday's Emmy Awards, when Bill Murray won for his performance in HBO's "Olive Kitteridge," there was a good reason he wasn't there to accept the trophy in person.

Across the country, Murray was in Philadelphia for his son Luke's wedding, where the "Saturday Night Live" alumnus took photos with guests and stepped to a different stage mic to address a smaller audience.

A night earlier, buzz built on Twitter as fans spotted him in Philly.

One fan wondered if the "St. Vincent" star, who just turned 65, was planning a papal summit with Pope Francis, who's slated to visit the City of Brotherly Love this Saturday.

While it remains to be seen if Murray and Pope Francis have that chat — and don't bet against that, as the actor's been known to pop up when least expected — Murray spent Sunday at The Bellevue watching Luke marry Kara Cassidy.

And as a Chicago Bulls fan who starred alongside Michael Jordan in "Space Jam," Murray had to appreciate that the bride and groom have made a living as college-basketball coaches, according to Philly.com.

At the reception, fans swarmed around the actor, who smiled as he posed for group photos, including one with the wedding band.

"BEST GIG EVER!!!! Bill Murray jumped on stage & rocked out with us," one band member wrote on Instagram. "SOOOO MUCH FUN!!!"

Not everyone in attendance was meeting the Academy Award nominee and newly minted Emmy winner for the first time.

The wedding served as a reunion for multiple Murray brothers, including fellow actors Brian Doyle Murray ("The Middle") and Joel Murray ("Mad Men"), both of whom posed for a photo with "SNL" writer Jim Downey and the groom.

After wedding guests learned Sunday of Bill's Emmy win, "Magic City" star Kelly Lynch tweeted praise for his decision-making.

"Another reason I [love] #BillMurray," tweeted the actress, "he wins an #Emmy but is at his son's wedding."
