World Series goes dark, lights up Internet with memes, chatter

The Kansas City Royals may have taken the first game of the World Series this year, but the real winners were on social media.

It was the longest game in World Series history: 14 innings that ended in a victory for the Kansas City Royals, who beat the New York Mets 5-4. And it appears the game got a bit too intense for the broadcast to handle.

During the bottom of the fourth inning, Fox's broadcast cut out and didn't return for several minutes.

While this was hardly the first glitch (Fox, which was airing the series, blamed it on a "rare electronics failure") ever to occur during a big live sports match, it was part of the new era of live TV-watching. That means millions were on the Internet as well as eyeballing their TV sets, and when disaster occurred, their fingers flew to come up with snarky comments and memes alike. Of course, the power outage wasn't the only reason for complaint; viewers staying up to 1 a.m. in the middle of the week were super cranky by the end:
