Witnesses who saw a vehicle veer off a steep embankment after a two-car collision in Florida over the weekend rushed to the accident and helped pull the driver to safety after his SUV burst into flames.

The Good Samaritans worked frantically with Palm Bay police officers to pull the driver from his overturned car. They then locked arms, forming a human chain to pull him up a hill and away from the fiery vehicle.

Tom Sais, who crawled through the vehicle’s back window, said he found the driver hanging precariously upside down.

“He kind of fell on top of me and slammed to the passenger side, and then I grabbed him and started pulling him,” he said.

Shannon Perez captured the rescue on video, comparing it to a scene from a movie and fearing “at any moment, we could be witnessing a horrible, horrible scene.”

Thanks to the efforts of a group of total strangers, the driver escaped with only minor injuries.

“Without a doubt, without the citizens, this would not have come out to a successful completion,” said Sgt. Steve Shytle of the Palm Bay Police Department.
