If you’re joining TODAY’s “Run for TODAY” series by training for a spring race, know that you’re not alone! Not only do you have Natalie Morales, Erica Hill and an incredible group joining you through social media (just check out the #RunforTODAY hashtag!), but there are also several apps ready to lend you support!

Shape magazine fitness director Jaclyn Emerick is sharing her top app picks to help you with whatever exercise goals you have planned for 2015.

Nike+ Running

Emerick recommends this app for anyone who is going to be running every day or who is working to compete in a race as it acts like a personal coach. Aside from tracking your distance, pace, time and route, the app also provides personalized tips, allows you to set goals and even will play cheers from friends during your run to keep that motivation up.

Strava

Take your fitness to the next level with this app, which is used by the likes of Olympic marathoner Kara Goucher. What Emerick particularly likes about this app is its “route builder” feature, which shows you any running trails near you and lets your filter routes by terrain so you never get bored with your runs.

Fitocracy

For those who are cross training (doing other exercises besides running during the week), Fitocracy is an app that will help make your gym time off the treadmill worth it. Emerick particularly loves the app’s library of exercise moves, and that you can either go through the app’s pre-planned workouts or custom build your own.
