Eight men star in Quentin Tarantino's new movie "The Hateful Eight." But there's at least one supporting role of note, and that's Kurt Russell's fantastic facial hair.

"The mustache ... it's like its own character in the film," TODAY's Savannah Guthrie said on Monday while talking with Russell.

"So true," said the actor, who noted that the super 'stache was real and took "about four months" to grow.

"It's a mustache wearing a man," he added.

But while he may deserve an award for the huge handlebar, it didn't fly quite as well back at home with longtime partner Goldie Hawn.

"Not real good," he said of her reaction to his having a stellar "sweeper," which is what he called his "Tombstone" mustache from 1993. "I learned then that Goldie wasn't a real big fan. Actually, neither was I. And she understood [with] this one we were going to have to muscle through it."

But all were relieved when the picture was done. "It was real nice when it came off," said Russell, who as you may note, remains clean-shaven.

"The Hateful Eight" has a limited opening in theaters on Dec. 25, and opens wide on Jan. 1, 2016. Prepare your facial hair now.
