But she was actually referring to a topic on yesterday’s chat in which the ladies discussed the Miss America pageant and questioned the validity of baton twirling as a skill or career path. Though it was far from their most controversial convo, the baton twirling community was not amused…in fact, they flipped.

Twirlers across the country — or “half the world” as KLG put it — took to Facebook, sharing photos and stories to prove to KLG and Hoda that twirling is not only a legitimate skill, but also a super cool career path. Talented twirlers go on to become teachers and can even earn college scholarships, according to the extremely vocal twirling community.

To right their wrong, the ladies invited Ellissa Johnson Eby, the #4 twirler in the country, to stop by the new studio. Ellissa has competed internationally since 1991 and toured nationally with the show "Blast." Sounds pretty awesome.

“Do you think you we’re ignorant for what we said?” KLG asked.

“A little,” she replied. Twirlers know how to keep it real.

Ellissa showed them a few tricks, starting with finger twirls, which KLG claimed she used to be able to do before her arthritis. Mm-hmm. When she saw that finger twirls were perhaps above their skill-level, Ellissa decided to keep it simple by showing them how to “scoop the ice cream,” a move taught to entry-level twirlers.

“Thank you for putting us straight!” KLG said.

The main takeaway: don’t mess with baton twirlers.
