Jan Sterling dies at age 82

Actress Jan Sterling is dead at age 82.

She was known for playing the cool, often conniving blonde in Hollywood film noir movies of the 1940s and ’50s.

A close friend says Sterling had broken her hip recently and had suffered a couple of strokes from which she never recovered. Sterling died at the Motion Picture and Television Fund’s home and hospital facility near Los Angeles.

Sterling’s most remembered role was in the 1951 Billy Wilder movie “Ace in the Hole,” also known as “The Big Carnival.” Her other films included “The High and the Mighty,” The movie earned Sterling a Golden Globe Award and an Academy Award nomination for best supporting actress.
