George Clooney is de-glamming for his next role.

The Hollywood hunk is packing on 40 pounds and shaving his hair to play CIA agent Robert Baer in the film “Syriana.”

How will he put on the extra weight? “It’s not terribly difficult,” his rep, Stan Rosenfield, told The Scoop. “Let’s just say he won’t be buying lots of Lean Cuisines.”

The heartthrob is also telling people that he’ll be giving up sex for the next several months — because he wants to concentrate on the intense role and also because he’ll be so pudgy no woman would want him. “Yep, that sounds like something George would say,” Rosenfield says. “He was kidding, of course.”

Here’s some news that won’t break a lot of hearts: acerbic “American Idol” host Simon Cowell says he’s in no rush to get married.

What’s more, the critic says he has no interest in having children.

“I don’t want babies the same way I wouldn’t want a puppy," Simon told the London Mirror. “It’s too much responsibility.”

Cowell has a similarly charming view of marriage.

“Weddings are so old-fashioned and there isn’t one on the horizon,” said Cowell, who has been dating 30-year old model Terri Seymour. “I believe in the saying, ‘If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.’ ”

The crooner is doing some major closet cleaning, and is sending the outcast stuff to a local Goodwill.  . . . Veggie vixen Pamela Anderson, dining at Le Cirque with the publishers who brought out her book “Star,” had the chefs at the legendary restaurant fix her up a special vegan platter that wasn’t on the menu, but was distressed when they couldn’t provide soy milk for her coffee.  . . . Aidan Quinn finally got his lifelong ambition of appearing in a flick with his idol, Paul Newman -- the two will appear in HBO’s “Empire Falls.” But Quinn had no lines with the screen legend, so he persuaded co-star Ed Harris to give him a line with Newman.
