Aretha Franklin's health scare led to canceled concerts and an 85-pound weight loss, but don't go thinking that she dropped the pounds because she had gastric bypass.

"If I had to have that surgery, I would be fat," Franklin told "Access Hollywood's" Shaun Robinson in an exclusive interview. Franklin went on to say that gastric bypass surgery would be too scary a procedure to undergo. "You know ... I had a cousin who had that surgery and she turned green and she did pass, too. That's something I would never ever do." Franklin did say that her drastic weight loss was due to a different surgery, but she stopped short of going into specifics.

Franklin said that she never felt the need to set the record straight about the surgery or rumors of cancer, nor did she feel like she should reassure fans that she was fine. "No (I didn't), because you really can't control what people have to say, and you just can't control what comes out of people's mouths. So, it will take care of itself. I am my own best example and that's where I leave that," Franklin said.

The two-part interview airs on "Access Hollywood" Monday and Tuesday nights.
