The latest trend for Florida raccoons: gator surfing.

While walking with his family in Florida's Ocala National Forest Sunday, Richard Jones spotted a raccoon scurry away from the group and jump on top of an alligator for a lazy ride down the nearby river.

"I snapped a lucky picture right when the gator slipped into the water and before the raccoon jumped off and scurried away," Jones told NBC affiliate WFTV via email. "Definitely the photo of a lifetime."

This photo opt may seem too good to be true, but the U.S. Forest Service thinks it's not unlikely.

"Truth is often stranger than fiction! The story that was told with the picture seems plausible to us. Also, both animals seem to be distressed and that would indicate that the story is true as well," wrote Denise Rains of the U.S. Forest Service in an email.

While it seems the furry creature got away from the alligator before becoming lunch, don't try its trick on your own!
