The long-awaited inquest into the mysterious death of tabloid star Anna Nicole Smith’s son convened briefly in the Bahamas on Tuesday but was adjourned because Tropical Storm Noel threatened the islands.

Coroner William Campbell swore in a new jury of four women and three men before halting the hearing until November 19.

Daniel, 20, died in his mother’s room at Doctors Hospital in the Bahamian capital of Nassau on September 10, 2006, three days after the pin-up model turned reality television star gave birth to daughter Dannielynn.

Daniel and Anna Nicole, who died of an accidental prescription drug overdose in Florida in February, are both buried at Lakeview Cemetery in Nassau. A private autopsy found the son had a mixture of drugs in his bloodstream and the coroner was expected to hear evidence from nearly three dozen people in order to determine the cause of death.

Tropical Storm Noel drenched Cuba on Tuesday after killing at least 18 people in flooding and mudslides in Haiti and the Dominican Republic. It was expected to move over the Bahamas on Wednesday and parts of the island chain were already getting torrential rain.
