I love apps that can live on the Web (like Meebo, the browser-based instant messaging service) instead of having to clutter up my PC.

For example, suppose I want to manage all my social networks — Facebook, Twitter, etc. —from a single, time-saving portal. There's a program called Seesmic Desktop that lets me do just that — but it's one more thing to install, one more program consuming precious system resources.

That's why I prefer Seesmic Web, an online version of the tool. Nothing to download, nothing to install, just one-click access to my social networks. It's free, easy, and fabulous.

Seesmic Web supports Facebook, FourSquare, Google Buzz, LinkedIn, PingFM, and Twitter. All you do is sign into one or more of these accounts and presto, you can read, respond to, and create status messages. Everything is organized into columns you can add, remove, and/or resize as needed. I especially like the way you can toggle between black and white backgrounds.

The service was recently updated to include a couple business-friendly features, including scheduled status updates, support for unlimited Facebook accounts, and integration with the Klout influencer-ranking service.

All told, Seesmic Web is pretty slick, and a worthwhile destination for anyone tired of bopping back and forth between Facebook, Twitter and the like.
