“Men I may not know, but shoes — shoes I know,” Carrie Bradshaw of "Sex and the City" once quipped.
Sarah Jessica Parker, the 48-year-old actress who brought Bradshaw to life (in some great pairs of shoes, nonetheless) knows a thing or two about fancy footwear as well. And now she's launching her own much-anticipated shoe collaboration with Nordstrom on Feb. 28.
The colorful line, called the SJP Collection, includes over 25 Italian-crafted shoes, handbags and a classic “Manhattan” trench coat, all inspired by Parker’s personal style.
“I’ve taken inspiration from things in my life such as the grosgrain ribbons I tied in my hair as a girl, to the flower accents from the 'Sex and the City' wardrobe, to references to classics styles form the late '70s and early '80s,” she said in statement. “I’m a firm believer in quality and timelessness and have created this collection with the hopes that women will love wearing it for years to come.”
Each shoe, from floral sandals to canvas wedges, has its own moniker. There is, of course, a pointed pump named after the character who made her a household name, “Carrie,” as well as a heeled strappy sandal called “Maud” after the famed French designer Maud Frizon, one of her favorite style icons.
While Parker’s namesake collection may not be as expensive as Bradshaw’s shoe brand of choice, Manolo Blahnik, the fashionista's footwear will set buyers back a bit. Flats and flip-flops are priced around $195, and a brown lace-up boot costs just under $500. SJP handbags, which range from clutches to hobo shoulder bags, will retail from $245 to $375.
But judging from the all buzz the collection has received since Parker announced her plans in June, it seems as though there are plenty of women willing to cough up a few dollars to sport a pair of SJP-designed heels.
This isn't Parker's first foray into the fashion world: She was a former creative director of Halston Heritage, and she designed a budget clothing line, Bitten, for the now defunct retail chain Steve & Barry’s in 2008.
