Find out the story behind this wild pic of Ike Barinholtz and Zac Efron

It may have been taken on the set of a film, but that doesn't quite explain everything.

Ike Barinholtz is a fast-rising comedian many know best from "The Mindy Project." But he's also been making a name for himself in movies like "Neighbors" and, most recently, "Sisters" alongside Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. He's a talented, funny guy.

And while his on-screen work is enough to make us laugh, his Instagram feed does the trick as well.

While posing in some clearly off-putting clown makeup, he hugged Zac Efron in one picture and wrote in the caption: "So good to catch up with my son. Even though things didn't work out with me and his mom I miss him and am proud of him #family #myboy"

And here he is with Chloë Moretz, writing: "Bonding with @chloegmoretz" — but we're pretty sure her expression does not say they're getting closer.

During his visit to TODAY, Barinholtz noted the pictures were taken on the set of "Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising," and joked, "That was right before I got to set, and then I got into makeup ... I woke up like this."

"You look like you're channeling Heath Ledger [as The Joker in "The Dark Knight"]," noted Al Roker.

"A little bit, yeah!" admitted Barinholtz. "Very creepy!"

Still, at least he seems to be having fun, right?

"Sisters" opens in theaters on Friday, Dec. 18.
