The 34-year-old superstar is expected to strut her stuff to "Make Me…", off her new album “Glory," and the buzz around the performance indicates it will be worth the nearly decade-long wait.

Of course, Spears has a long history with the VMAs. Her live performances over the years have included risqué costume changes, a sexy strut with a python, a steamy lip-lock with Madonna, and more. Here's a look back at Spears' five most memorable VMAs moments.

1. Britney makes her VMAs debut — with 'NSYNC!

In 1999, the 17-year-old former Disney star performed her breakout hit "...Baby One More Time" with her then-boyfriend Justin Timberlake and the other members of his soon-to-be iconic boy band 'NSYNC.

2. A striptease with no 'oops' about it

The following year, the Princess of Pop, who attended again with Timberlake, proved she wasn't that innocent with a risqué striptease. After cooing the Rolling Stones "Satisfaction," the singer ripped off her stylish tux to reveal a sheer two-piece bodysuit before launching into "Oops...I Did It Again."

3. Shimmying with a python

Talk about exotic dancing! In 2001, in her most iconic VMAs performance to date, Spears slithered through "I'm A Slave 4 U" surrounded by exotic animals, and capped it off by shimmying with an albino python draped around her shoulders.

4. Making out with Madonna

Two years later, Spears shocked fans even more by making out with Madonna during a live performance (with Christina Aguilera) of Madonna's "Like A Virgin." Fans voted the girl-on-girl kiss the most outrageous moment in the awards show's history.

5. Britney sweeps the 2008 VMAs

After a notoriously lackluster 2007 live performance, Spears bounced back in 2008 to win her first VMA trophies ever, scoring major wins in Video of the Year, Best Pop Video and Best Female Video — all for her tabloid-blasting "Piece of Me" video.
