Comedian Sarah Silverman took on a more sentimental tone Monday night when she publicly mourned the loss of her mother, Beth Ann O'Hara.

O'Hara died last Wednesday at age 73, and no cause of death was revealed. It's clear that she was loved by her 44-year-old daughter, who posted the following tribute alongside a photo of her late mother: "She was a know-it-all in overalls & two different colored socks. And defiantly, no bra."

Silverman went on to add a funny memory: "The woman who, when I was little, gave me detailed directions to a restaurant ladies room and then secretly watched as I found my way to it on my own."

But she ended on an emotional note.

"The woman who went back to college at 42, and skinny dipped in ponds, and told me never to protect myself from a broken heart because it was so very worth the pain to get to experience love.”

According to New Hampshire Public Radio, O'Hara founded a theater company called New Thalian Players, and has produced and directed dozens of plays. She was also a photographer.

She was survived by Silverman's five siblings and father.
