The father of the newest Duggar family member says he's happy with the size of his growing family, even if it’s only a sliver of the colossal clan he grew up in.
“I enjoy our three,” dad Josh Duggar said Friday when asked by TODAY’s Jenna Wolfe whether he planned to follow in his famous parents' footsteps and have a big brood. "We’ll take it one at a time. We really enjoy our three.”
Duggar is the oldest of the children featured on the TLC reality show, “19 Kids & Counting.” In addition to his two-week-old son, Marcus, he has two other children: Mackynzie, 3, and Michael, 1.
Duggar said his parents, Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar, have stressed that while they love his children, they love their defined role as grandparents just as much.
“They really like to really make that clear,” he said. “They’re like, ‘These are your kids. We can enjoy them, we can have all the fun we want, but at the end of the day it’s like, here you go.’”
Duggar and his wife, Anna, announced their pregnancy on TODAY in March. They both have spoken of their desire to follow in Josh’s parents’ footsteps by not using birth control and putting the size of their family in God’s hands.
“Having children around is always a blessing, it really is,” he said Friday. “Children are a gift from the Lord. When you look at them that way and you look at them really as more of an investment and really looking beyond yourself, I think that’s what’s so important. They really are so rewarding.”
A new season of “19 Kids & Counting” begins on June 16. The Father’s Day episode features the arrival of Marcus, with his mom, Anna Duggar, going into labor at her midwife’s house.
