If you're struggling with getting your kids to leave the nest, here's a helpful tip: Don't live in Connecticut.
OK, "helpful" is subjective. But new recession-y research by Ohio State University had determined the top 10 cities where kids were likely to live with their parents past the age of (ahem) maturity. Topping the list were the commuter towns of Bridgeport, Stamford, and Norwalk, Conn., where an unwieldy 34 percent of young adults are monopolizing their parents' DVR and taking up valuable couch space.
The greater metro areas of Honolulu, Miami, New York, and LA also made the cut, presumably because of the high cost of living and lack of affordable housing (although that could just be because they're awesome places to kick it). The study, upliftingly titled "During the Great Recession More Adults Live With Parents," also noted that almost a quarter of all 20- to 34-year-olds currently crash at home, compared to just 17 percent in 1980. In addition to the economic downturn, researchers theorized that declining marriage rates may also play a role.
Dwellers in the Provo-Orem area of Utah boasted the fewest baby birds lingering long after their eggs have hatched. So if you're a parent and you miss having a quiet, empty basement, consider getting your kids a nice ticket to the romantic Sundance Film Festival.
