It may be small, but a home’s entryway is an important space considering it’s the first thing guests see when they arrive and the last thing they see before they leave.
Singer-songwriter Holly Williams knew the dark and unpleasant entryway at her country retreat in Tennessee needed some TLC, so with the help of Country Living’s style director Page Mullins, she brought it back to life with a few interior decorating tricks.

Below, steal some style inspiration from the project and find out how to brighten up your own entryway:
1. Use white paint for a fresh start
Williams and Mullins gave the walls a clean slate with a crisp white coat of paint, specifically All White by Farrow & Ball. While the entryway was already painted with a light hue before, the fresh paint gives it new life by brightening up the space.
2. Go bold with a playful wallpaper pattern
The duo used a floral wall covering (Seraphina - Delft, available on designersguild.com) to give the entryway a playful tone with sophisticated pops of color. “The blue-and-gray color scheme keeps it from going too frilly or fussy,” said Mullins.
3. Create more space with built-ins
If your space allows, consider creating built-in shelving or seating like Williams did in hers. The area behind the farmhouse’s stairs made a perfect place to build a reading nook for her daughters Stella June (2) and Lillie Mae Louise (7 months).

4. Make it feel bigger with mirrors
Everyone knows that reflection pieces can make a space feel bigger, but Mullins and Williams took the idea to a whole new level by creating a gallery wall out of pretty mirrors. Not only is it eye-catching to see the designed wall, but the mirrors help open up the room, too.
