No one took the eliminations of Judith Hill and Sarah Simmons harder last week than their coach, Adam Levine.
“Adam was really mad,” Amber Carrington, his one remaining contestant, told TODAY.com Monday. “I hung out with him after, when we were figuring out song choices for this week, and he was just like, 'What the heck? I can't believe this happened.'”
What did the Maroon 5 frontman do to move on? He regrouped with Amber and handed her one of his favorite songs, “I Remember You” by Skid Row. She was a bit intimidated by the selection, especially since she’d never heard of the metal band, which had its heyday in the late '80s and early '90s.
“It was kind of crazy. I was really nervous about that song choice,” she confessed, “because Adam loves the original so much that I was like, 'I want to do it justice. I'm really nervous.' But I think he was pretty proud of it.”
After tackling her coach’s selection, Amber picked her second song of the evening. The country singer selected the Patsy Cline classic “Crazy” with a little help from one of her fellow competitors.
“Colton Swon gave (me) the idea for ‘Crazy,’ ” she said, “and I was like, 'You are a genius,' because that song, I've sung it forever. And it just has a nice tone to it. It's just feel good music (that) brings you back home. I didn't have to think about it that hard because I know that song back and forth.”
Her version earned high praise from country superstar and "Voice" coach Blake Shelton, who compared it favorably to the legendary original. But will that be enough to save Amber? Even after two strong outings Monday, she admitted that the eliminations of Judith and Sarah have definitely put her a little more on edge.
“After last week I don't know what the heck's going to happen,” she said. “I just try to prepare myself for both (outcomes) and just try to breathe and live for the moment.”
