Rots of luck: Actors and sports stars transform into zombies for blood drive

Is that Jimmy Smits with his face melting off? Singer Joel Madden with tendons jutting out of his arm? Entertainment reporter Maria Menounos baring gory, filthy teeth sticking out of rotting gums?

Yes, celebs from "Hobbit" director Peter Jackson to band The Black Keys to racecar driver Kurt Busch have been zombified in a PSA campaign promoting blood donation.

The Red Cross and AMC's "Walking Dead" have teamed up to promote the cause, whose images were digitally splattered with blood and gore for the campaign. The undead extras were added by "Walking Dead" co-executive producer and special FX makeup designer Greg Nicotero

The Red Cross is asking readers to "use your brains, (and) give blood." They're also offering a chance to win a trip to the set of "The Walking Dead," which returns to TV Oct. 14 at 9 p.m. on AMC.

If you ask us, Good Charlotte singer (and husband to Nicole Richie) Madden got the best -- er, worst -- zombie treatment. His heavily tattooed arm was turned into a dripping, decaying limb that wouldn't be one bit out of place among AMC's Walkers. Sad to say, Peter Jackson just doesn't look that different from his normal appearance.
