Meredith appeared on the "Late Show with David Letterman" last night and the topic turned to her last day on TODAY on June 8, her hosting duties on "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" and Matt Lauer's years on TODAY.
"Too long. Really too long," she said, when asked how long has Matt Lauer been at TODAY. "Talk about the deal has dried up, you know."
After hearing Letterman and the audience laugh, Meredith realized how how what she said could be misinterpreted.
"I don't mean it that way! I did not mean it that way! Totally -- so wrong because I never ever knew."
So what does Meredith really think about Matt?
"I adore Matt."
