American legend Liza Minnelli stopped by TODAY on Friday to talk about her upcoming role in the NBC series "Smash," and the former "Cabaret" star chatted with TODAY.com about the biggest influences on her iconic style.

Minnelli said her friend, the late designer Halston, has been her biggest fashion influence, and she was even wearing one of his tops on the show.

"This (outfit) is all influenced by Halston. You know, he really gave me a look," she said. "I think my biggest talent is not my own, but I think it's recognizing the most talented people and going to the right people, and he was the one. He changed everything in fashion."

Minnelli also said modern designers Calvin Klein and Kenneth Cole have been a big inspiration. "Kenneth is really spectacular," she told us. "He's understated in a way that's very close to tradition, but there's a bend in it."

Do you love Liza's look? Here's what she was wearing:

  • Gucci blouse
  • Halston top
  • "Plain ole' leggings"
  • Elsa Peretti jewelry
