If there’s one thing we’ve learned from the Trumps it’s that you can have it all– and no one exemplifies that better than Ivanka Trump. The stunning businesswoman, author, jewelry designer, budding footwear mogul – and now mom – does it all with such poise; it’s no wonder her style icon is Grace Kelly.
How does she manage her impressively hectic schedule? Ivanka took some time from it to talk to TODAY.com about her latest jewelry collection, her new flagship store and, of course, husband Jared Kushner and baby Arabella Rose.
What’s the most fun part about being a mom? What’s the hardest part so far?
The most fun part of being a mother so far is watching Arabella grow and experience different things every day; it is also the hardest part though! I feel like she will be out of the house and off to college before Jared and I know it.
Arabella Rose is such a beautiful name. How did you come up with it?
I have always loved the name Arabella, and Jared’s grandmothers had names beginning with an A and an R. We wanted to pay a subtle homage to those two strong and wonderful women while also adopting a name that was very unique. Plus, we thought that the initials, ARK, were cool!
What are your must-have beauty products?
My favorite sunblock is Neutrogena Spectrum Sunblock SPF 70. I also use Purpose Facial Soap (the bar version) to cleanse my skin each morning and evening. I have been using this product since I was 15 and love it. Mustela Ultimate Hydration body moisturizer and L’Oreal Voluminous mascara are also staples in my medicine cabinet.
What are some of your favorite stores or brands?
I love Catherine Malandrino, J. Mendel, Oscar de la Renta and Valentino. I also love the great everyday pieces from Zara and J. Crew. These days I wear shoes, handbags and jewels from my own lines almost exclusively!
What’s one fashion trend we likely won’t ever catch you in?
Harem pants!
How has your taste in jewelry changed as a mother?
My taste has largely remained consistent over the past several years. I would say that perhaps it has evolved, as opposed to changed, as I have been exposed to more sources of inspiration. Statement earrings, chic glamorous cocktail rings and stacked bangles are my favorite. Easy wearable pieces are essential in my life as I have less than 20 minutes to get ready in the mornings!
The Ivanka Trump Fine Jewelry Collection is relocating from Madison Avenue to Soho. What are your plans and hopes for the new store?
My collection pays homage to the past while embracing the future, which is exactly how Soho has reinvented itself. The diverse Soho culture encompasses youthful contrasts, which was the inspiration behind my motto: Rock Tradition. I find Soho’s trademark cast-iron architecture and buildings to be remarkably inspiring, and look forward to being in a neighborhood with such invigorating energy.
The new flagship boutique will showcase ten distinctive collections of jewelry, an environmentally conscious bridal bar, a VIP room highlighting one-of-a-kind couture pieces, select leather accessories and a gallery to showcase future categories such as timepieces and specially curated selections of jewels. Exclusive limited edition pieces inspired by the youthful vibe of Soho will be created to celebrate the expansion and relocation. Trump Soho Hotel’s business has been thriving, and I look forward to experiencing that level of success with my bi-level jewelry flagship boutique opening on 109 Mercer Street this fall.
How does the designer part of your soul affect the business side of you and vice versa?
I feel that the designer and businesswoman in me complement each other extremely well. The designer in me provides me with a unique sense of creativity that I often apply in negotiations while working on hotel and other business development deals. Conversely, the business side of me has largely contributed to the strategic decisions made launching and expanding my jewelry, footwear and handbag collections.
What’s the best bit of advice you’ve gotten about motherhood?
Enjoy the little things and live in the moment. It is easy to want to talk on the phone or read the paper while feeding a baby but taking a break and enjoying those everyday moments is extremely rewarding.
