We're happy to report that the White House just got back to us regarding this year's annual presidential turkey pardoning ceremony.
As we first reported, Bill Maher and PETA fired off a letter to Barack Obama earlier this week criticizing the White House's post-pardon custom of sending the birds off to an amusement park, where they've been used as tourist attractions.

While there's no record of Maher's letter reaching the president, this year's pardoned turkeys, named Apple and Cider, will retire to George Washington's Mount Vernon Estate and Gardens.
"This is the first year that the turkeys will go to live at Mt. Vernon following the presidential pardoning," Tom Gavin, a special assistant to the president, wrote in an email. "Apple and Cider wll be a part ofthe Christmas at Mount Vernon program that runs through early January."
Then they will spend the rest of their days at Mount Vernon's offsite livestock facility. Not open to the public, the facility includes daily care, shelter and veterinary care.
PETA said they're happy about the turkeys' new home.
However, the animal rights group said in statement that they hoped next year "everyone will opt for a vegan meal that involves no forgiveness or pardon at all."
