If it's the end of the world as we know it, we'll feel just fine stepping in line behind Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron in "Mad Max: Fury Road."
The two stars of the post-apocalyptic franchise reboot look about as tough as you'd hope in Entertainment Weekly's exclusive first look, 35 years after Mel Gibson ruled the road in the original.
Hardy is Max Rockatansky and Theron — displaying the shaved head we all wondered about — plays a commander named Imperator Furiosa. The actress sports a mechanical arm of sorts and Hardy, out from under the mask he wore as Bane in "The Dark Knight Rises," stands at the ready in a re-imagining of Gibson's leather-and-shotgun get-up.

Australian writer-director George Miller is at the helm again, and he tells EW, "I wanted to tell a linear story — a chase that starts as the movie begins and continues for 110 minutes." The magazine says "Fury Road" features few digital effects and even less dialogue, with Miller adding, "In this crucible of very intense action, the characters are revealed."
The film is due in theaters in May 2015.
