Hip-hop and R&B artists should dominate the 46th annual Grammy Awards, according to a new poll of 18- to 49-year-olds conducted by VH1.
50 Cent, Beyonce, Justin Timberlake, Eminem and Luther Vandross are the favorites to win Grammys when the honors are presented Feb. 8 in L.A.
VH1 conducted a random telephone poll of 536 U.S. adults from Jan. 14-18.
Justin Timberlake’s “Justified” (Jive) was the No. 1 choice for album of the year, selected by 26% of those polled. “Justified” was also the highest-ranked album among the subcategory of women.
Men, however, selected OutKast’s “Speakerboxxx/The Love Below” (Arista) as their favorite album.
Men, women and all age categories selected Beyonce’s “Crazy in Love” (Columbia) as record of the year; it was chosen by 30% of those polled. For song of the year, those aged 18-29 picked Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” (Interscope), while 30- to 49-year-olds preferred Luther Vandross’ “Dance With My Father” (J).
For best new artist, 44% of respondents cited 50 Cent. The No. 2 selection, Evanescence, was selected by 14%.
