Top two 'Losers' mark a first for the show

The final four were still busy celebrating their good fortune when “The Biggest Loser” began Tuesday night. After 19 weeks in the competition, Olivia, Hannah, Irene and Jay enjoyed some well deserved back-patting before getting back to the business of dropping pounds and making it to finale night.

But before the remaining players had a chance to drop any more weight, they had to gain some back. The traditional last challenge of the season, wherein the contestants pack on the pounds they lost to better appreciate all of their hard work, took on a new twist this time.

Rather than simply strapping on a weight-filled backpack, the competitors had to carry golf bags containing the equivalent of their heavy accomplishments, and then release their weekly tallies along a full 18-hole course. With 468 pounds to gain and lose between them, it was no small feat.

For Olivia, who strapped her 108-pound share on, it almost proved more than she could handle. The very first hole on the green left the opera singer in need of medical attention thanks to a back spasm and loss of breath, but once she had the all clear, she returned to the challenge.

The first to cross the line and toss away the full burden, not to mention score a sweet $15,000 home gym for the effort, was Hannah.

Despite the grueling nature of the challenge, the competitors still had one last last-chance workout ahead of them. Trainers Bob, Jillian, Cara and Brett held nothing back while dishing out bouts of boxing, step-ups, ladder climbing, heavy-bag tossing and every other routine in their repertoire in an effort to give the final four every chance at the penultimate weigh-in.

At the scales the “Losers” faced the usual yellow line, only this time the two above the line would be a lock for finale night, and the two below the line would have to let America decide which one would join the others next week.

The public will have to pick between Jay and Irene, because Olivia and Hannah won the weigh-in. The victory marks the first time an all-female team claimed the top two, much less an all-sister team.
