You may think of Dr. Stephen Hawking as a brilliant but distant physicist, best known for his scientific theories, popular book "A Brief History of Time," and the motor-neuron disease that means he uses a wheelchair and speaks with a computer-generated voice.

But years ago, he was a young man in love, and as portrayed by Eddie Redmayne in this exclusive clip from the upcoming film "The Theory of Everything," he was able to mix science and romance.

Redmayne, as Hawking, and Felicity Jones as Jane Wilde, who would become his first wife, manage to turn a discussion about the origins of the universe into a sweet riverside moment.

"The Theory of Everything" opens in theaters on Nov. 7.
