Maria Shriver is taking on an assignment for NBC: Illusionist Roy Horn’s first interview since he was mauled by a tiger on stage in Las Vegas.

Shriver, who stepped down as a “Dateline NBC” reporter after husband Arnold Schwarzenegger was elected California governor last fall, is now an NBC contributor handling special projects.

Horn will speak to Shriver about the tiger attack last October that nearly claimed his life and the difficult recovery that has followed, NBC officials said Friday.

The 90-minute special will include interviews with Horn’s doctors and Siegfried Fischbacher, his partner in the now-ended “Siegfried & Roy” show that included rare white tigers and lions.

An air date was not announced.

An animated comedy series based on the magicians and their animals, “Father of the Pride,” is planned for NBC’s prime-time fall schedule.
